Advanced Composite Co., Ltd. (Headquarter: Obuchi, Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture; President: Takatoshi Shoji) has developed new graphite-derived materials of MMC: Metal Matrix Composite, ACM-H1 and ACM-H2. The new materials will start to be supplied as a new lineup of our aluminum-based MMC.
Using our unique core technology, the Squeeze Casting method (high pressure casting), we have successfully developped a new manufacturing method to design physical properties arbitrarily such as thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, strength, etc. according to the required needs.
<About ACM-H3>
The newly developed “ACM-H3” is a MMC made by combining and impregnating aluminum and graphite. It is a new material that improves the reliability of products as a substitute for aluminum and copper (heat sink), a high-rigidity heat dissipation structural member, and a material with high rigidity suitable for in-vehicle use.
Features that graphite does not have are (1) rigidity of 123 Gpa, (2) thermal expansion lower than that of copper and aluminum, and (3) thermal conductivity greater than that of copper and aluminum. Furthermore, (4) it is as light as aluminum, and (5) it has a high rigidity (Young’s modulus) as high as copper.
The characteristics of this unprecedented material are high thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion, and low anisotropy. Conventional materials have low thermal expansion in the horizontal direction and high thermal conductivity, but some have extremely poor thermal expansion in the stacking direction and low thermal conductivity. is a new material that is isotropic vertically and horizontally.
